As part of being a plastic surgeon that does cosmetic surgery of the body, I have seen a lot of naked people both in the office and on the operating room table. And it is understandable that many patients feel quite self-conscious during an initial examination. As 99.9% of the population is far from being a Ken and Barbie, and I can assure you that this is true, I wish I could convey to them that their body’s appearance is far from offensive or disgusting. The best reassurance I can give them is…..if you think you look bad, you should see the other patients! In addition, a plastic surgeon is not looking or thinking about a patient’s body in some judgmental way. They are too busy thinking about how to solve the patient’s problems and to do so in a safe and effective manner.
