While it is commonly perceived that older patients (> 45 years old) undergo the majority of the cosmetic procedures, recently released statistics from the American Society of Plastic surgery tell a different story. People aged 40 to 45 years of age, so-called Generation Xers, account for over 40% of procedures while the Baby Boomers makeup less than 30%. This historic perception is undoubtably based on those undergoing actual surgery while most of today’s procedures are actually non-surgical. The Generation Xers have embraced these smaller, preventative and minimally-invasive procedures (e.g., fillers, laser and light therapies) to address aging changes early so they can avoid the need for bigger more dramatic operations later.
