IMPROVED RHINOPLASTY – MORE NATURAL, BETTER SHAPE
Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping surgery, nose job) can decrease the size and shape of the nose, narrow the nostrils, and make the tip more refined and uplifted. Most commonly, it is performed to remove a hump on the bridge of the nose or to make the tip of the nose smaller. It is a procedure that is being increasingly sought after, particularly in the Asian and African-American populations.
In the past, poor results from rhinoplasty were not uncommon due to the removal of to much bone and cartilage during the operation. While the early results after surgery may have appeared good, long-term results were fraught with complications. The old ‘ski-jump’ nose look years later was not rare .This often lead to breathing problems as well. Today’s newer techniques are used to maintain as much of the existing structures of the nose as possible, focusing on reshaping and sculpting what is already there. This leads to a re-sculpted nose that is more natural and unique that what was done in the past. Noses with higher bridges with less turned-up tips creates a more beautiful look that fits many patient’s faces better. Because these newer rhinoplasty procedures are more refined and delicate, the patient often has less pain, swelling, and bruising that originally thought. In addition, nasal packing is rarely used today, one of the most fears of many patients considering rhinoplasty surgery.
This is also good news for those patients who have had a rhinoplasty in the past with less than desired results. These same rhinoplasty techniques can be used to correct asymmetries, deviations, and irregularities as well as put the nose in better balance to the rest of the face. In some cases, extra cartilage may be needed and can be taken from the inside of one’s ear if necessary. Dramatic improvements are often possible in these revision rhinoplasty procedures.
