According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic surgery, who has compiled statistics on cosmetic surgery for years, the most common cosmetic surgery in 2011 was liposuction. This is not surprising given that liposuction has a large number of treatable sites on the body from the neck to the ankle. This is unlike, for example, the nose (one) or breasts (two) where each patient has a more limited number of surgical sites. There is no other plastic surgery procedure that can virtually be applied all over the body.
Liposuction is also done by a wide variety of physicians and not just board-certified plastic surgeons. This is unlike any other major cosmetic surgery procedure. It is also done in a wide variety of surgical settings from the hospital to the doctor’s office. It can also be performed under the whole spectrum of anesthetic possibilities and may of the number of procedures that are performed are done in office settings under local anesthesia. This helps the overall number if procedure done to escalate significantly.
