Everyone is aware that cosmetic surgery is a burgeoning business based on the sheer number of advertisements and coverage by the media. Recent statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows that the number of cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. has doubled over the past ten years. But this dramatic increase has not been fueled by invasive surgery but by non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures such as Botox, injectable fillers and light and laser therapies. Of the 14 million cosmetic procedures performed last year, only one in nine (1.5 million) were surgeries. That is a dramatic decrease from a decade ago when one in five procedures were surgery.
