The introduction of the first laser lipolysis system, SmartLipo, brought a new technology to a cosmetic procedure that had not changed significantly in the past decade. Until laser technology was brought to fat removal, the vast majority of liposuction procedures had been done by methods that were not vastly different from those done when it was introduced in the U.S. in 1981. The concept of laser heat to melt fat provided a less traumatic method for its removal that truly had less after treatment pain, swelling, and bruising. Of equal importance, small to moderately-sized area of fat could be treated under local anesthesia alone…reducing costs and expediting recovery.

While the initial Smartlipo systems were effective, their low power made the treatment sessions slow and did not offer great benefit in the treatment of large fat areas. The newest development, Smartlipo MPX, brings the technology to a whole new level.

Incorporating the decreased downtime and comfortable recovery associated with SmartLipo, the SmartLipo MPX uses two distinct laser wavelengths instead of one to attack the fatty deposits faster and more effectively. Not only does SmartLipo MPX treat fatty deposits more effectively, but it also has the ability to enhance the coagulation of blood vessels and tightening of the surrounding tissues and overlying skin Patients who have undergone the SmartLipo procedure love the long-term benefits of tightened skin tissues, which give them a more toned and sculptured appearance.

The dual laser wavelength of Smartlipo MPX improves efficacy, speed, and safety of the fat removal procedure. The 1064nm wavelength disrupts a broad region of fat as its heat spreads out evenly. This effect also helps blood vessels to be sealed off in its path, resulting in less bruising. The 1320nm wavelength, in contrast, provides very focused heat that is absorbed by the water in the tissue adjacent to the probe. The combination of these two wavelengths creates a blended thermal effect that effectively liquefies fat and tightens skin through collagen remodeling. For added safety, the laser handpiece is ‘intelligent’ allowing a preset amount of heat energy to be delivered but stop firing when the handpiece stops moving or when the tissue temperature exceeds 42 degrees C.

Smartlipo MPX provides the state-of-the-art in laser lipolysis. Its dual wavelength, ability to get targeted tissue temperatures, and its enhanced safety through temperature and motion firing control brings the liposuction procedure to a new level of clinical results. The older methods of liposuction, while still effective, are being eclipsed by greater precision with less trauma and recovery. Liposuction is now becoming more of a finesse procedure.
