There is no denying the influence that Hollywood and celebrities has on plastic surgery. Whether being a spectacle for having had it or having everyone guess whether they have had something done, the face and bodies of celebrities can also serve as examples of what some patients want. For women, patients frequently point out Angelina Jolie’s lips, Jennifer Lopez’s and Kim Kardashian’s buttocks, Nicole Kidman’s nose and Kate Upton or Kelly Brook’s breasts. Men point to Brad Pitt’s abs, George Clooney’s eyes or Nick Lachey or Matt Damon’s square and angular jawlines. While serving as examples, the use of celebrities helps patients to communicate their own aesthetic goals and this is a healthy perspective. But sometimes celebrities serve more than just face and body illustrations. Patients may occasionally want to look very similar to them, a goal that is both unattainable and unrealistic.
