It is always of interest to try and do whatever is possible to expedite the recovery process after any aesthetic plastic surgery procedure. While each procedure has its own specific postoperative recovery issues, all share the natural reactions of swelling and bruising as a result of the invasive surgical process.
Many different modalities have been used to reduce swelling and bruising from various cold therapies, compression wraps, topical creams to oral supplements. Oral supplements remain popular and Arnica and Bromelain have been the commonly used.
Coming these two well known supplements with others is Silagen Arnica-Bromelain Complex for post-procedure recovery. It contains Arnica montana power (1000mg), Bromelain (500mg), Vitamin C (240mg), Zinc (15mg), Diosmin (450mg), Grapeseed Extract (200mg), Rutin (100mg), Hesperidin (50mg) and Citrus Bioflavinoid Complex. (50mg) This caplet is coated with pharmaceutical glaze so there is no ‘powder burps’ that can occur with capsules.
The first four ingredients are well known but the remaining three are less recognized by most patients. Diosmin and Hesperidin is helpful in reducing edema (swelling) and improving blood vessel strength. Rutin and Citrus Bioflavinoids along with Diosmin and Hesperidin helps reduce swelling and inflammation, increases lymphatic drainage, reduces pain, and improves venous tone and capillary strength.
This vitamin, mineral and supplement composition provides all elements that are known today that may help with faster resolution of bruising and swelling which are the most visible part of the recovery process. While no clinical studies have been done to substantiate the merits of this specific oral supplement, its primary elements (Arnica and Bromelain) have been accepted for a long time to be useful in the recovery process. It is logical to presume that adding other supplements, like bioflavinoids, may have a synergistic effect as well.
